Shelby residents will be safe from a tax increase this Monday. Although it's been two weeks, and the bi-weekly wallet cleansing is due, your safe for now. Our founding father, General George Washington has earned us a reprieve. For today is a holiday.
Now Tuesday's Shelby city council meeting, at seven pm, that's a different story.
Speaking of cartoons: Presidents' Day reminds me of one of my favorites. Bunker Hill Bunny staring bugs bunny. It's a hoot. Bugs is a revolutionary soldier and Yosemite Sam is a Hesion mercenary. Kind of like the armed guards surrounding Shelby city property and employees. Since they profit from a share of the loot King George's tax collectors scam off the hard working patriots.
So bugs and Sam, battle each other from two different forts with predictable and hilarious results. I don't want to spoil it for you if you want to see it for yourselves. Just to say the patriots win, and taxes go down, for a few hundred years at least.
If you are in Shelby on Tuesday and want to see local government in action, please stop on by the Shelby city council. I'm sure if the public side of the barricades fills up, the council will relocate to larger quarters. And not just have the fire dept, who's always watching your wallet too. Close the gallery. It's for your safety and comfort of course.
Like the Hesion mercenaries, armed guards are always close at hand. Unlike Yosemite Sam's day, open and fair government actions are just a few towns over. Happy Presidents' Day .
